I haven't mad a rug from denim so it's difficult for me to give you an accurate answer. I don't want to waste the material with trial and error since I am also planning to make a quilt as well. Am a bit worried that 2.5 inch may get cumbersome to work with though. Quilts I have done but this will be my first rag rug. Just think most of my rugs are from old linens and that material is quite thin.
