Oval Rag Rug - Lickety Split

Hi. So glad your here to check out my latest project. How do you like the title. Weird word eh? Lickety. I can't remember when I actually said it out loud. How bizarre.

 Anyhow. I made this beautiful red crocheted rag rug for my daughter Cole. I always thought purple was her favorite color but I guess when it comes to home decor red is it. I love red so that's why I called this rug gorgeous.

Actually Cole has been waiting patiently for this rug for a very long time. I had the material about a year ago and it just sat in my closet waiting for me to rip it up.

crocheted oval rag rug.Sometimes the fibers from material play havoc on my sinuses and I end up with a severe headache. I know I could cut it with scissors and avoid the whole pain thing but I love how a rag rug looks with all those strands mussing it up.

As with most things, once I started ripping it didn't take long to get it done. Especially with the help of my adorable granddaughter.

I used a cotton blend queen size duvet cover to make this rug. It ended up being the perfect size to make a 24" x 36" oval rug. Perfect. Just what Cole wanted.

crocheted round rag rug.I somehow forgot to get pictures of this project so I asked Cole to send me a couple. Good thing too or else you'd never get to meet Penelope. 

Cole says she loves it and her new rag rug already has a home in her kitchen in front of the sink. It's great for those tootsies - squishy and warm.

Crocheted Granny Square BlanketOh I almost forgot to tell you. I am so forgetful these days. I used a great big thick crochet hook for this project. You can find more details on how to make a rag rug right HERE.

    lovely reds! great images too - my reds usually don't photo well. I have some items stashed for rag rugs, guess I should get on it!! What a cute furbaby, I bet she would love to play with my Macy!

    Did you know that purple used to be a shade that we would consider red today? I haven't done a rag rug for years and years. The red looks amazing.

    Red is my decorating color, too! :) After we had been in this house about a two months, my husband suggested we start looking at a few different colors on the color wheel. ;-)

      After red, my second favorite wall color is a deep mustard yellow. I had all through my house - living room, dining area and halls. Good luck on picking more colors

      If you ever decide to give crocheting a try this would be a great beginner project because you only need to know how to do a single crochet - the most basic of all stitches.

    Great idea. I also like the looks of a rag rug but have never made one. Unfortunately my T-shirts get warn to bits, but maybe cut up old coloured sheets would work as well. - Margy

DIY Wind Chimes - Recycle Spoons

Hi there. So glad you decided to stop by and check out my DIY wind chimes made from recycled spoons. I had to make something to meet the May Craft Challenge. And I was lucky enough to get all the supplies for under two dollars. Score! Bummer I din't finish it on time. My supplies include six spoons, fishing line, an old candle holder and a clip I had hiding in my stash of goodies. Since I don't have a drill or anything to make holes in the spoons to thread the fishing line through, I had to find a different way to hang my spoons.  If you look at the picture to the left, you can see the spoons are wrapped and tied with the fishing line. I decided to use the candle holder upside down. It just seemed to look better. I tied the spoons to the candle holder - the wind chime base.
