Hey, Come Thrift Shopping With Me!

Hi there fellow thrift store enthusiasts. Welcome to my little blog.  I thought I would share a thrift store trip with you. So come along and see what's new at one of my favourite stores.

We are shopping at the Salvation Army.
The Salvation Army House Ware

Ahhh. Look! A sewing basket.

I want it.

I've read quite a few blogs recently about organizing and stocking up sewing baskets. I thought it would be fun to organize my stuff too.  :)

Poop, I don't have the space for it right now. I'm still living in limbo and don't know where anything is.

That is such a bummer. I hope I'll be able to find a nice one once I get settled into a new place.

Hmm. Looks like these pictures were paint by numbers.

You know, I haven't had much luck with finding good priced art work at thrift stores. What about you?

Here comes one of the sales clerks. They always greet us with salutations and a smile.

I enjoy shopping at this Salvation Army because the ladies are always so nice. It's not just their sparkling personalities, it's their whole attitude towards the customers. And they seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs.

My granddaughters look forward to going to this Salvation Army too because the ladies are so nice.

The girls can chatter away and the clerks actually stop to listen. It makes them feel good when an adult takes the time to pay attention to them.

My girls also like this store because they can play freely with the toys. The clerks get a thrill to see them smiling and laughing.  To them, a bit of mess is nothing as long as they can see the cuties enjoying themselves. Besides my girls tidy up after themselves - most of the time. I mean it isn't perfect but overall they put things back where they belong.

Back to shopping!

I'm not really seeing anything interesting here today on the shelves.

Cole likes the vintage canister set in orange and browns with the mushroom lids and decorations. They are kinda cool but I think they cost too much.

Moving on, let's check out the lamps.
The Salvation Army House Ware

I like the gold lamp. It isn't vintage so it can't go in the Etsy shop but the shape is kinda cool. It would look fantastic painted a dark colour (of your choice) with white paint dry brushed onto the raised areas. Very shabby chic. Good price too.

I think, over all the Salvation Army has very reasonable prices and I can usually find a great deal.

I've seen some interesting lamp shades at the thrift store. I like the way they stacked these ones.

Second hand lamps are great buys because you can find some very unique pieces. And you don't have to be afraid of painting them because they are so cheap - customizing it to coordinate with your decor.

Look at the lamps below. Very nice square based lamp with matching lamp shade. I'd probably paint out the gold trim but other wise it's good as is.

What about those crazy lamp shades in the middle? Very interesting lamps details in the lamp base. They would look nice painted in black - matt finish for a modern look or white wash for that ever popular shabby chic.

I mean, even the next two lamps have potential. All it takes is your imagination and some paint.

Okay, let's take a gander at some of the furniture.
The Salvation Army Furniture

Looks like a hotel or motel was updating their furniture -getting rid of the old bulky t.v. style cabinets.

I don't think they will sell very fast. You see these things along side the road all the time because people are upgrading to flat screens.

Although these units are great for DIYers to repurpose but paying for them doesn't make much sense to me when you can very easily get one free when curbside shopping.

The Salvation Army Furniture
Ewww. See here? An armoire. Remember what I did with the one I purchased at The Second Look? Read this POST.

The Salvation Army Furniture
The corner cabinet is solid wood. I can't see a price tag - doesn't matter, someone already bought it. I was just curious.

Oh, another good thing about the Salvation Army - every Friday they have some sort of sale on a selected item. For example, they may have all furniture or children's clothes marked down to fifty percent or ten t-shirts for ten dollars.

The ten shirts for ten dollars sale came in handy when I wanted to make a blue rag rug

I choose t-shirts that had company logo's on the front. I figured those shirts wouldn't likely sell so I wouldn't be ripping. up a nice shirt that someone would love to wear.

I'm going to have a quick run around the linens and clothes. Sorry I won't be taking you with me.

Well, thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed this post. You might like to read my post.

  1. I love thrifting! You're so lucky the salespeople at your thrift stores are nice. The ones that are where I live aren't very friendly. Looks like you found some good stuff though! If I ever need thrift shopping advice, I know where to go.

    1. Hi Tiffany, it definitely makes shopping a nicer experience when the sales clerks are nice. It's too bad they aren't all nice. Those ones should be looking for a job they like better. :)

  2. I am the original thrift shopper but what I really like to do is get stuff off the side of the road! That's completely free. Come share at my party What to do Weekends also. I'd like that. I'm following you on facebook, google+ and Pinterest. Linda

    1. Curb shopping is the best. Years ago the city had two weeks in the spring in which they would pick up anything and everything. You'd see lots of people driving by slowing looking for good finds. Furniture galore. Oh and the junkers searching for scrap metal and such. It was great because it kept a lot of stuff from going to the dump. Too bad they stopped doing it.

    1. Hi Marcie,
Isn't if funny that when I was a child I was totally embarrassed by thrift shopping. Now my youngest daughter is embarrassed and has to avoid being seen by kids her age.

  4. I love going to thrift stores! So far I've gotten clothes and jewelry from there. Also, I too, love interacting with people who love their job and it shows by how they talk to you. In a store, that is always a plus. I love it too when I call a place to talk to customer service and I get that from the person I'm talking to as well. The simple joys in life, right?! Enjoyed your post. Found you from the Modern Hippie Momma hop. I hop you enjoy the rest of your week! <3

  9. I enjoyed shopping with you (what a fun idea). Like you, I try to only use clothing items that are discounted (because no has has wanted them) or ones that are not likely to sell. I love to rescue clothing from the landfill but hate to repurpose a clothing item that someone might wear. Thanks for sharing at Inspire Us Thursday.

  11. Well that was fun. It was though I was right there shopping with you. I know how hard it is when I go thrifting to not buy everything I think "I'll use someday".

That is a great price on t-shirts and what a great way to recycle them - rag rugs.
